TL;DR: Buffer is the simplest start and has a real free plan. Hootsuite and Sprout Social are full suites priced per user, Agorapulse is strongest in the inbox, Metricool pairs analytics with ads data, and Planable is built around approvals. Postify (ours) publishes to nine networks from €9.99 per month, with an inbox from the Plus plan and an MCP server on every plan.
By the Postify team at Businice S.R.L. Postify makes this site. We list ourselves first and say where other tools are stronger.
Top 5 social media management tools at a glance
The five strongest all-round social media management tools in 2026 are Postify (we make it), Buffer, Hootsuite, Sprout Social and Agorapulse. Buffer is the simplest and has a real free plan, Sprout Social and Hootsuite are the deepest suites, and Agorapulse leads on inbox work. Postify publishes to nine networks, with an inbox from the Plus plan.
The table compares the five on the questions that decide a purchase: is there a free plan, what the price grows with, whether replies happen in the same tool, and whether your own AI assistant can work in it through an MCP server. Full entries for all ten tools, with pricing and where each one is weaker, follow below.
| Tool | Best for | Free plan | Price grows with | Inbox | MCP server | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Postify (we make it) | Creators and small teams on the major networks | No | Plan tier (profiles, users, posts) | From the Plus plan; no TikTok or Pinterest | Yes, every plan | 2026-10-22 |
| Buffer | A free or low-cost start | Yes, up to 3 channels | Channels | Comments only | Yes, Free included | 2026-10-22 |
| Hootsuite | Large teams that want one suite | No | Users | Every plan | Yes | 2026-10-22 |
| Sprout Social | Teams that need deep analytics and collaboration | No | Seats | From Standard | None listed | 2026-10-22 |
| Agorapulse | High volumes of comments and DMs | No | Users | Every plan | Yes, self-hosted | 2026-10-22 |
Which social media management tool is best for you?
Pick by the job that hurts most. Small businesses on a budget should start with Buffer's free plan or Postify. Agencies chasing client sign-off should look at Planable or Vista Social. Inbox-heavy teams fit Agorapulse, analytics-heavy teams Sprout Social or Hootsuite, and anyone who wants an AI assistant to do the work needs an MCP server.
Price units matter as much as list prices. Buffer charges per channel, Hootsuite, Sprout Social and Agorapulse per user, Planable per workspace, Metricool per bundle of brands, and Later per social set. A cheap per-user tool gets expensive with a big team, and a cheap per-channel tool gets expensive with many accounts.
- Small business (one or two people, one brand): Buffer is free for 3 channels and Metricool is free for 1 brand. Postify starts at €9.99 per month and adds the inbox from the Plus plan.
- Agencies (many clients, each with sign-off): Planable has unlimited users and required approvals on Pro, and Vista Social has multi-stage approvals from Advanced. Postify sends per-post client approval links from the Pro plan, without an internal multi-step workflow.
- Creators (one person, many networks): look for direct Stories and Reels publishing, a grid preview and a link-in-bio page. Later previews the Instagram grid; Postify previews the Instagram, TikTok and Plative grids and includes a link-in-bio page on every plan.
- Teams that need approvals: Planable is built around them. Buffer puts approvals on Team, Later from Growth, Vista Social on every plan, and Hootsuite on Advanced.
- People who want an AI assistant to do the work: Buffer, Metricool, Planable, Vista Social, Agorapulse, Hootsuite and Postify all offer MCP access, so an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT can work in your account.
Can one tool manage every social network?
No tool publishes everywhere. Most cover Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, X and Pinterest, while coverage of Threads, Bluesky, Google Business Profile, Mastodon and Snapchat varies. Postify publishes to nine networks, including Threads and Plative, and does not support Bluesky, Google Business Profile or Mastodon. Check the exact networks you need before you commit to a tool.
Buffer has one of the widest lists: Bluesky, Facebook pages and groups, Google Business Profile, Instagram, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Pinterest, Threads, TikTok, X and YouTube Shorts. Metricool also covers Bluesky, Twitch and Google Business Profile, and Planable covers Google Business Profile. Later publishes to Snapchat, but it removed X support in August 2025.
Postify's nine are Instagram, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, X, Pinterest and Plative, our own social network. Instagram connects through Instagram Login, and Instagram and Facebook Stories go out directly with no phone reminder.
Formats differ too. Metricool, for example, sends a phone notification instead of auto-publishing Instagram Stories that carry links, mentions or stickers, and Reels with outside audio. Check per-format support for the networks you rely on.
Do social media management tools work with ChatGPT or Claude?
Several now do, through MCP servers that let your own AI assistant work inside your account. Buffer, Metricool, Planable, Vista Social, Agorapulse, Hootsuite and Postify all offer one. Sprout Social, Later and SocialBee did not list an MCP server when we checked. What the assistant can actually do, from scheduling to inbox replies, still varies by tool.
Plan tiers matter here. Buffer, Metricool and Planable include MCP access on their free plans, Vista Social on every plan, and Agorapulse lists a self-hosted MCP server for ChatGPT and Claude. Hootsuite's MCP connects ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot to publishing, analytics, the inbox and listening.
Postify's MCP server works on every plan, Hobby included, and signs in with OAuth instead of an API key, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients can draft, schedule and analyze posts. It is the programmatic route into Postify: there is no public REST API, Zapier or Make integration.

1. Postify
Creators and small teams publishing to the major networks from one calendar
Postify publishes to nine networks: Instagram, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, X, Pinterest and Plative, our own social network. Photos, Reels, carousels and Stories publish directly with no phone reminder, each network can get its own caption inside one post, and a queue with time slots, evergreen recycling and recurring posts keeps the calendar full from the Plus plan. The unified inbox, also from Plus, handles DMs on Facebook, Instagram and Plative and comments on those plus LinkedIn, Threads, X and YouTube, with comment-to-DM automations for Facebook and Instagram. Analytics come with every plan, with CSV export from Pro and white-label reports on Agency. Teams get roles, clients approve posts through per-post links from Pro, and every plan connects to our MCP server so your own AI assistant can draft, schedule and analyze posts.
Pros
- Direct publishing to nine networks, including Instagram and Facebook Stories with no reminder step
- Unified inbox from the Plus plan for Facebook, Instagram and Plative DMs and comments on LinkedIn, Threads, X and YouTube too
- Queue with time slots, evergreen recycling and recurring posts from the Plus plan
- MCP server on every plan, Hobby included, for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients
- iOS and Android apps, with iOS home and lock screen widgets and a Live Activity
- A free 7-day trial on every plan
Cons
- No free plan, and Hobby is tight: 1 brand, 1 user and 15 posts per month, with no inbox or first comment
- No built-in AI writer, no CSV upload, and no public REST API, Zapier or Make
- No Bluesky, Google Business Profile or Mastodon
- No TikTok or Pinterest inbox, and no social listening
- Competitor benchmarks cover YouTube channels only, and best-time suggestions are Instagram only
- Approvals are per-post client links, not an internal multi-step workflow
Verdict: A strong fit if you publish to the major networks for one or a few brands and want direct Stories, an inbox and AI assistant access in one plan. Look elsewhere if you need a free plan, Bluesky or Google Business Profile, social listening, or multi-step internal approvals.
Pricing: From €9.99 per month (€8.33 per month billed yearly) for Hobby: 1 brand, 1 user and 15 posts per month. Unlimited posts from Starter, inbox from Plus, client approval links from Pro, and up to €199.94 per month for Agency
2. Buffer
Solo creators and small teams that want a free start and simple publishing
Buffer is the simplest tool on this list and is priced purely per channel. The free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each, 1 user, the AI Assistant, 30 days of insights, an API key and MCP access. Essentials adds first comments for Instagram and LinkedIn, and Team adds unlimited team members, approval workflows and access levels. Buffer publishes to Bluesky, Mastodon and Google Business Profile as well as the major networks, and its community inbox handles comments.
Pros
- A real free plan: 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each
- MCP server and API key on every plan, Free included
- Publishes to Bluesky, Mastodon and Google Business Profile
- iPhone, iPad and Android apps, plus an Apple Watch app
Cons
- Cost grows with every channel you connect
- The community inbox covers comments; DMs are not listed
- Approvals need the Team plan
Verdict: Pick Buffer to start free, post to a handful of channels, or reach Bluesky and Mastodon. Teams that live in DMs will want a fuller inbox.
Pricing: Free for up to 3 channels; Essentials $6 per channel per month ($5 billed yearly); Team $12 per channel per month ($10 billed yearly); 14-day trial of paid plans
3. Hootsuite
Large teams that want publishing, inbox and listening in one suite
Hootsuite is the broadest suite here. Every plan includes the inbox, and listening and competitor monitoring sit in the same product. Its MCP connector links Hootsuite's AI agents to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, where they can draft and schedule posts, read analytics, triage the inbox and run listening queries, with a person confirming actions. The mobile companion app lets you compose, check the planner, approve content and reply from the inbox.
Pros
- Inbox on every plan, with message assignment in the mobile app
- MCP connectors for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot covering publishing, analytics, inbox and listening
- Listening and competitor monitoring in the same suite
Cons
- Highest entry price here: $99 per user per month billed annually, and no free plan
- Approvals need Advanced ($399 per user per month billed annually)
- Monthly-billed prices are not published
Verdict: Pick Hootsuite when one suite for a larger team matters more than price. Small teams pay for a lot they will not use.
Pricing: Standard $99 per user per month billed annually; Professional $199; Advanced $399; Enterprise custom. Monthly billing exists but its price is not published; 14-day trial with no card
4. Sprout Social
Teams that need deep analytics, inbox and collaboration under one login
Sprout Social is a full suite for teams whose social work is measured and shared. Standard adds the consolidated inbox and collaboration tools, Professional unlocks unlimited social profiles, and Advanced adds sentiment analysis in the Smart Inbox. The mobile app covers messages, replies with conversation history, task assignment and posting. The catch is cost: every user is a paid seat, and Essentials and Standard cap you at 5 profiles.
Pros
- Consolidated inbox and collaboration tools from Standard
- Unlimited social profiles from Professional, sentiment analysis on Advanced
- 30-day trial with no card
Cons
- Every user is a paid seat
- Essentials and Standard cap you at 5 profiles, and Essentials has no consolidated inbox
- No MCP server listed on the pricing page
Verdict: Pick Sprout Social when reporting and team workflow justify per-seat pricing. Solo users and small budgets have better options here.
Pricing: Essentials $99 per seat per month billed monthly ($79 billed annually); Standard $199, Professional $299 and Advanced $399 per seat per month billed annually; 30-day trial with no card

Teams that handle a high volume of comments and DMs
Agorapulse is strongest in the inbox: automated moderation rules on every plan, ad comment moderation from Professional, and saved replies, labels and bulk actions on Advanced. It lists a self-hosted MCP server for ChatGPT and Claude, and its Companion App lets you create and schedule posts, engage and check analytics from your phone. Pricing is per user, and publishing to X needs a separate add-on.
Pros
- Inbox depth: moderation rules on every plan, ad comments from Professional, saved replies and bulk actions on Advanced
- Self-hosted MCP server for ChatGPT and Claude
- 30-day trial with no card
Cons
- Per-user pricing, so the cost scales with team size
- X publishing needs a separate add-on, priced on request
Verdict: The pick when engagement volume, not publishing volume, defines the job and per-user pricing fits your team.
Pricing: Standard $99 per user per month billed monthly ($79 billed annually); Professional $149 ($119); Advanced $199 ($149); X needs an add-on, priced on request; 30-day trial with no card
6. Metricool
Analytics-minded marketers who also run ads and manage several brands
Metricool combines scheduling with analytics for organic posts and for Facebook, Google and TikTok ads, and it prices by bundles of brands rather than users. The free plan covers 1 brand with 20 posts per month and includes the MCP server, though LinkedIn and X are not on it. Pros
- Free plan with an MCP server
- Social and ads analytics (Facebook, Google and TikTok) in one tool
- Priced per bundle of brands, not per user
- Publishes to Bluesky, Twitch and Google Business Profile
Cons
- X costs $10 per connected account per month extra and is not on Free
- No LinkedIn on the free plan
- Instagram Stories with links, mentions or stickers need a phone notification instead of auto-publishing
Verdict: Pick Metricool if reporting across brands and ads matters more than inbox depth.
Pricing: Free for 1 brand and 20 posts per month; Starter $25 per month billed monthly ($20 billed yearly) for up to 5 brands; Advanced from $67 per month ($53 billed yearly); X is an add-on at $10 per connected account per month
7. Planable
Agencies and brands whose bottleneck is approval
Planable is built around review. Posts appear in calendar, feed and grid views where stakeholders comment on and approve them, with optional approval on Basic, required approval on Pro and multi-level approval on Enterprise. Pricing: Free for 50 posts in total; Basic $39 per workspace per month billed monthly ($33 billed yearly); Pro $59 ($49 billed yearly); unlimited users on every plan
8. Vista Social
Small agencies that want inbox, approvals and MCP access on the entry plan

Pros
- Social inbox and MCP access on every plan
- Single-stage approvals on Professional, multi-stage from Advanced
- 15 social profiles on the entry plan
Cons
- No free plan
- The entry plan includes 2 users

SocialBee organizes posting around content categories and includes AI content creation (an AI Post Generator and Copilot). Its Engage inbox gathers comments, mentions and DMs for Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube and X. Plans are priced per plan rather than per user, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. - Engage inbox for comments, mentions and DMs

10. Later
Instagram-first creators and brands that plan visually
Later is built around visual planning: drag and drop the Instagram grid, get Instagram best time to post and hashtag suggestions, schedule first comments, and publish a Link in Bio page. It also publishes to Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat. Frequently asked questions
- What is the best social media management tool?
- It depends on the job that hurts most. Buffer is the simplest start with a free plan, Hootsuite and Sprout Social are the deepest suites, Agorapulse is strongest in the inbox, Metricool in analytics with ads data, and Planable in approvals. Postify (ours) suits creators and small teams publishing to nine networks with an inbox and AI assistant access.
- What are the top 5 social media tools?
- For managing accounts, our top 5 are Postify (we make it), Buffer, Hootsuite, Sprout Social and Agorapulse. If you meant the most used social networks rather than tools, that is a different question: this page covers the software that manages them.
- Is there a free social media management tool?
- Yes. Buffer is free for up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each, Metricool is free for 1 brand and 20 posts per month, and Planable is free for 50 posts in total. Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Vista Social, SocialBee and Later show no free plan on their pricing pages, and Postify has no free plan either.
- What is the difference between a scheduler and a social media management tool?
- A scheduler publishes posts at the time you set. A management tool also brings comments and messages into one inbox, reports on results and lets a team work together with roles and approvals. Most tools on this page do both; the differences are in how deep the inbox, analytics and approvals go.
- Which social media management tool is best for a small business?
- Start with the free plans from Buffer or Metricool if you post for one brand on a few channels. Move to a paid plan once you need replies in one inbox or more than one user. Postify adds its inbox from the Plus plan and its MCP server on every plan.
- Do social media management tools post automatically?
- Yes, for most formats. Every tool here publishes feed posts at the time you set. Some formats still fall back to a phone notification: Metricool, for example, does this for Instagram Stories with links, mentions or stickers. Postify has no reminder-based publishing: Instagram and Facebook Stories go out directly.
- Can I manage social media from my phone with these tools?
- Yes. Postify, Buffer, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Agorapulse, Metricool, Planable and Later all have iPhone and Android apps, and Vista Social and SocialBee have iPhone apps. Most are companions to the web app, so check which features, such as the inbox or approvals, work on mobile.
