Font Generator for Social Media

Type once and get 23 styles back, from bold and italic to script, fraktur and small caps, each one ready to paste into a bio or a caption that has no formatting controls at all.

Last updated: 2026-08-03

Instagram, TikTok and X give you a plain text box. There is no bold button, no italic toggle, and no way to make one word stand out. What people paste in instead is not formatted text, it is different characters that were designed to look formatted.

The whole trick lives in one corner of Unicode. Mathematicians needed a bold A that was distinct from a regular A, so the standard assigned separate code points for a full bold alphabet, a full italic one, a script one, and several more. To a text field those are just letters, so they travel through a caption box the same way an emoji does.

This generator applies all 23 of them at once and gives you a copy button for each. Everything runs in your browser: no account, no upload, and no copy of your text on our side.

How these fonts work

They are not fonts, and the difference is the reason they work at all. A font is a file your device installs and an app chooses to use. No social network lets you choose one for a bio or a caption. What you are copying here is a different set of characters that were drawn to look like styled letters.

Most of them come from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, added to Unicode so that a bold A meaning a matrix could be distinguished from an ordinary A meaning a variable. That gave the standard a complete bold alphabet, a complete italic one, script, fraktur, double struck and monospace, each with its own permanent code points. To a caption field they are simply letters, so they travel wherever text travels.

Not formatting

There is no bold flag attached to your text. The letter itself is a different character, which is why it survives a copy, a paste and a database round trip.

Support varies

A character only appears if the reader device has a glyph for it. Older phones show an empty rectangle instead. Bold, italic and script are the safest; squared, circled and inverted styles break first.

Gaps are permanent

Some letters were never encoded: there is no small capital Q or X and no superscript q. Those pass through unchanged, because the alternative is substituting a character that means something else.

A few styles work differently again. Strikethrough and underline do not replace your letters at all: they keep them and add an invisible combining mark after each one, which your device draws on top. That is why those two work on any alphabet, including accented letters and scripts these symbol blocks never covered.

Read this before you style a whole caption

These characters have a real cost, and most tools that generate them do not mention it. It is worth knowing exactly what you are trading before you decide it is worth it.

  • Screen readers cannot read them as words. VoiceOver and TalkBack either announce each character by its Unicode name, one at a time, or skip it in silence. A caption written entirely in styled text is not a difficult read for a blind follower, it is an impossible one.
  • Use it for a word or two. A styled name, a single subheading or one emphasized phrase is a design choice that costs almost nothing. A styled paragraph is a wall of near-identical shapes that is slower to read for everyone, not only for people using assistive technology.
  • Keep hashtags and mentions plain, always. Every network builds those links by matching literal characters. A styled hashtag is not parsed as a tag and a styled @ mention notifies nobody, so both become decoration that does none of the work you added them for.
  • Search does not see styled words. In-app search, and any recruiter or discovery feature built on it, matches the characters you typed rather than the letters they resemble. A styled keyword is a keyword nobody can find.

All 23 styles, side by side

Every style below is rendered from the same words, "Your name here", so you can compare them honestly. If a row shows empty boxes on your screen, that style has no glyphs on this device and your readers on similar devices will see the same thing.

Samples are generated on the server from the same code the tool runs, so what you see here is exactly what the copy button gives you.

Using styled text well

  • Style one or two words, not the whole thing. A name, a job title or a single line reads as deliberate; a full paragraph in script reads as a broken font and gets scrolled past.
  • Bold and italic travel best. They are old, widely supported and legible at small sizes, which is more than can be said for fraktur or upside down text.
  • Never style a hashtag or an @ mention. Networks match those against plain text, so a styled tag stops being a link and stops being searchable.
  • Check it on a phone before you commit. Desktop browsers carry font coverage that a five year old Android handset does not, and a missing glyph shows up as an empty box.
  • Styled letters still spend characters. Most of these styles cost the same as the letter they replace, so a bio at its limit will not suddenly fit more.
  • Keep a plain version of your name somewhere on the profile. Search inside these apps matches the characters you typed, not the letters they resemble.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real fonts?

No. A font is a file your device installs, and social apps do not let you pick one. These are separate Unicode characters, mostly from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, that were drawn to look bold, italic or script. You are swapping letters for lookalike letters, which is why the styling survives a copy and paste.

Why do some letters stay unchanged?

Because the matching character does not exist. Unicode has no small capital Q or X, no superscript q, and no convincing upside down Q, so those letters pass through as they are. It is a gap in the standard rather than a bug in the tool, and there is no substitute that does not mean something else entirely.

Will everyone see the styled text?

Almost everyone, but not quite. Rendering depends on the fonts installed on the reader device, and older Android builds in particular ship thin coverage of the newer blocks. When a device has no glyph it draws an empty rectangle. Bold, italic and script are the safest; squared, circled and inverted styles are the ones most likely to break.

Does styled text hurt reach or accessibility?

Accessibility, yes, and that is the honest answer. A screen reader announces these characters one at a time, as "mathematical bold capital H" or similar, or skips them silently. A whole caption in styled text is unusable for a blind reader. Reach is less clear cut, but in-app search matches literal characters, so a styled word will not be found by someone typing the plain one.

Can I use these fonts in my bio?

Yes, and the bio is where they work best. Every network here accepts pasted Unicode in the bio field, and a bio is short enough that one styled line stays readable. Paste it into the app or the website, do not retype it, because typing loses the special characters.

Which networks keep styled text and which strip it?

Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, LinkedIn and Threads all keep it in bios, captions and posts, because they store your text as written. What varies is where it is worth using: LinkedIn will render it but the audience reads it as spam, and any network that indexes text for search treats a styled word as a different word.
