Instagram Caption Generator

Pick your industry and what the post is meant to do, and get captions that are already built: a first line that stops the scroll, a middle that earns the save, and one clear ask at the end. Three free on the page, the full 30 caption pack by email.

Last updated: 2026-08-06

A blank caption box is a worse problem than a bad caption. Most people who sit in front of one do not run out of ideas, they run out of a starting shape: they know roughly what the post is about, they have no idea what the first line should be, and twenty minutes later the caption reads like a description of the photo. The photo already did that job. The caption has a different one.

Every caption this generator writes has the same three parts, because those three parts are the whole job. The hook is the first line, and it is the only part most people will ever read, because Instagram folds the caption after roughly two lines and shows the rest behind a more link. The body is what a person finds when they tap that link, and it has to be worth the tap. The call to action is the last line, and it names the single thing you want the reader to do next, which is the part that gets cut most often and matters most.

The three goals change all three parts, not just the ending. An engagement caption opens with something arguable and closes with a question you would actually answer in the replies. A sales caption opens by naming a problem the reader recognises and closes with the specific next step, a link, a word to comment, a DM. A growth caption opens by telling a first time visitor what this account is, and closes by asking them to follow. Picking the wrong goal is how you end up with a beautifully written caption that asks a stranger to book a call.

These are templates, and templates are a starting structure rather than a finished caption. The wording here is editorial, written for Instagram and distilled from public copywriting patterns, not measured Postify data and never anything about an individual account. Paste one, then change the words that do not sound like you, add the detail only you have, and cut whatever is left over. The generator saves you the blank page, not the thinking.

Write your captions

Two choices decide every caption: the topic pool the sentences are written around, and what the post is actually meant to do. The goal changes all three parts, not only the last line.

Get comments, saves and replies from the audience you already have.

Pick an industry and a goal, then generate your first 3 captions.

A fully assembled caption for each of the three goals is printed further down this page, so you can read what the generator produces without generating anything at all.

The anatomy of a caption: hook, body, call to action

Every caption this generator writes is three parts joined by a blank line, and separating them is the whole trick. Written as one block, a caption is a single thing you either like or do not. Written as three parts, it becomes three small problems with three different answers, and you can fix the weak one without touching the other two.

1

The hook

First line

The only part most people will ever read. Instagram folds the caption after roughly two lines, so this line is the entire caption for anyone who does not tap more, and it is the one worth rewriting three times.

2

The body

Behind the more link

What the tap buys. This is where the specific thing lives: the number, the mistake, the week it went wrong. A body that only restates the hook in longer words is why people stop tapping more on your posts.

3

The call to action

Last line

The single next step. One ask, not three. Comment, save, tap the link, follow: whichever one matches what the post was for, said plainly enough that nobody has to work out what you wanted.

One assembled caption for each goal, fitness account

Nothing below is written for this page. Each of these is the first caption the generator produces for a fitness account on that goal, broken back into its three parts so you can see which sentence is doing which job, and then printed whole underneath exactly as it lands on your clipboard.

Engagement

312 characters

For the audience you already have. The hook takes a position worth arguing with, the body earns the save, and the ask is a question you would genuinely answer in the replies. Use it when the post has no product in it and the point is the conversation.

Hook
Hot take: most advice about strength training basics is written by people who have never actually done it.
Body
The difference between the accounts that grow and the ones that stall is almost never talent. It is that one of them decided what to be known for.
Call to action
Save this, then come back and tell me whether it worked.

Sales

266 characters

For the people who have been watching for a while without doing anything. The hook names the problem rather than the offer, the body removes one specific objection, and the ask is the exact next step. Use it when there is something to buy and pretending otherwise wastes the post.

Hook
You do not have a strength training basics problem. You have a decision problem.
Body
No twelve week discovery phase. We start in week one, you see something real by week two, and you keep everything we build together.
Call to action
Tap the link in bio to book a free 15 minute call.

Growth

283 characters

For the stranger who arrived from Explore and has never seen you before. The hook says what this account is, the body says what they get if they stay, and the ask is a follow. Use it on the posts that reach beyond your followers, which is usually the Reels.

Hook
New here? This is what you get if you stay: strength training basics, without the fluff.
Body
You will not find recycled advice here. If I have not tried it myself and watched what happened, it does not make the cut.
Call to action
Follow, then check the comments for the part I could not fit in here.

That is the whole machine. 6 hooks, 6 bodies and 6 calls to action per goal, paired so that no two captions in a pack use the same combination, which is how 30 distinct captions come out of eighteen sentences. The pairing is deterministic rather than random, so the same industry and goal always produce the same pack, and the three captions the tool shows you are the first three in the emailed one.

Templates are editorial, written for Instagram and distilled from public copywriting patterns and platform best practice, last reviewed 2026-08-06. They are a starting structure: swap in the words your audience actually uses and cut anything that does not sound like you.

This page writes the caption. Two other tools handle the rest of it.

Formatting, not writing. Instagram collapses the line breaks you paste in from another app. Keeping the caption laid out the way you wrote it is a separate job.

Caption spacer

Limits, not writing. How much of the caption allowance you have spent, and where the feed folds the rest away, is a counting job with an exact answer.

Turning a template into your caption

  • Spend most of your editing time on the first line. Instagram folds the caption after about two lines, so the hook is the entire caption for most of the people who scroll past it. If the first line could sit under any post in your niche, it is not a hook yet.
  • Ask for one thing at the end, not three. A caption that asks for a comment, a save and a follow gets none of them. Pick the single action that matches the goal you generated for, and let the other two go.
  • Put the detail only you have into the body. The template gives you the shape of a sentence, and the number, the name, the week it went wrong or the thing a customer said out loud is what turns it into your post. That detail is also the part nobody else can generate.
  • Read the caption out loud before you publish it. Anything you would not say in a voice note comes out in that read, and it is usually the sentence that sounds most like marketing. Cut it and the caption gets shorter and better at the same time.
  • Match the caption goal to the post, not to the month. A promotional caption under a behind the scenes clip reads as a bait and switch, and the engagement version of the same caption under a launch post wastes the launch. Generate the goal that the picture is already making a case for.
  • Keep a running note of the hooks that worked. Two or three first lines will outperform everything else you post, and once you know which ones they are, the generator is mostly a way of producing more captions in that shape rather than a way of finding new ones.

Frequently asked questions

How long should an Instagram caption be?

As long as the idea needs and no longer, which in practice means one of two shapes. A short caption of one or two lines works when the image carries the meaning and the caption only has to add the ask. A long caption works when there is a story or a genuine teaching point in it, and there is no penalty for length, only for padding. What matters far more than the total is the first line, because Instagram folds the caption after roughly two lines. If you want to see exactly where your caption gets cut on each network, that is what our character counter is for.

Are generated captions bad for reach?

Nothing about a template is visible to Instagram. What hurts reach is a caption that says nothing, and that happens just as often when a person writes it from scratch at eleven at night. The real risk with any generator is sameness: if you paste the output unedited, your account starts to sound like every other account using the same tool. The fix is the last ten percent, which is why every caption here is built to be edited rather than published as it stands.

What is the hook, body and CTA structure?

It is the three jobs a caption has to do, separated so you can do them one at a time. The hook is the opening line, and it earns the tap on more. The body is the middle, and it pays that tap back with something useful, honest or entertaining. The call to action is the closing line, and it names one next step. Every caption this tool produces is a hook plus a body plus a CTA joined by a blank line, which is also why they are easy to edit: you can swap one part without rewriting the other two.

How do I make a template sound like me?

Change the nouns and cut the qualifiers. The template gives you a sentence that works structurally, and it stays generic until you put your own specifics into it: the number, the client, the mistake, the thing that happened on Tuesday. After that, delete the words that soften the claim, since almost every generic caption is a good sentence with three hedges bolted onto it. Two passes and it is yours.

Should I use emoji and line breaks in my captions?

Emoji, yes, sparingly and where they replace a word rather than decorate one. Line breaks are worth more: a caption written as one block gets skimmed, and the same caption split into short paragraphs gets read. Instagram is awkward about keeping those breaks when you paste from another app, which is a formatting problem rather than a writing one, and our caption spacer exists purely to solve it.

Do I get the full 30 caption pack?

Yes, by email. The three captions on the page and the full anatomy breakdown below are free with no address at all. The complete 30 caption pack for your industry and goal unlocks when you ask us to send it, and the emailed pack is generated from exactly the same template table you just used, so the version in your inbox is the one on your screen. There is no paid tier and nothing extra hidden behind the form.
