One photo, thirteen different frames. Instagram wants 1080 x 1350 in the feed and 1080 x 1920 in a Story. Pinterest builds its whole feed around 1000 x 1500. LinkedIn is happiest at 1200 x 627, X crops the timeline to 16:9, and a YouTube thumbnail has to be 1280 x 720 and under 2 MB. Almost nothing you shoot fits more than two of those without a crop.
This resizer does the cropping properly rather than squashing. It fills each target frame completely, keeps the original proportions, and lets you say which part of the photo matters: pick one of nine focus points and every selected size re-crops around it, so a face in the top third stays in frame when the same photo becomes a 9:16 Story and a 16:9 thumbnail.
It all runs on your device. The file is decoded and drawn with canvas inside the tab you are reading, nothing is sent to a server, and no copy is kept. Pick the sizes you want, hit download on each, and close the tab.
Your image never leaves your browser. The crop and the export both run on your device, and nothing is uploaded to us. HEIC photos straight from an iPhone only decode in Safari, so export a JPEG copy first if yours will not open.

0.85 is the safe default. Push to 0.95 for images with text, drop toward 0.7 only when you are fighting a tight file size cap.
Re-encoding through canvas also drops the EXIF block, so the file you download carries no GPS coordinates, camera model or timestamp.

JPEG or PNG, and what the quality slider does
The resolution decides whether your image fits the frame. The format and the quality setting decide whether it fits the file size cap, and those are two different problems.
JPEG
Photographs, screenshots of video, anything with gradients
Lossy, and that is the point: a 1080 pixel wide photo lands between 100 KB and 500 KB at quality 0.85, which clears every file size cap on this page with room to spare. The artifacts it introduces hide well in detail and texture.
PNG
Logos, charts, diagrams, screenshots of text, flat color
Lossless, so text stays crisp and flat areas stay flat. The cost is size: the same image can be five to ten times larger than the JPEG, which is what pushes a thumbnail past 2 MB or a Facebook image past 4 MB.
The quality slider only applies to JPEG, and it runs from 0.6 to 1.0. At 0.85, the default here, the difference from the original is invisible at normal viewing size on almost any photograph. Above 0.95 the file grows quickly for very little gain. Below about 0.75 you start to see blocking in skies and other large flat areas, which is the first thing that gives away an over-compressed image.
One thing worth knowing either way: every network re-compresses what you upload. Exporting at maximum quality does not protect the detail, it just means the image is compressed twice. A clean file at the recommended size and a sensible quality survives that better than an enormous one.
Cropping once for eight networks
- Pick the aspect ratio before the resolution. A 4:5 portrait takes about 25 percent more vertical space in a feed than the same photo at 1:1, and that extra height is free reach on the exact same picture.
- Export photos as JPEG and flat graphics as PNG. A photograph at JPEG quality 0.85 is usually a third of the size of the PNG with no visible difference, but a screenshot or a logo with hard edges shows JPEG artifacts around every line.
- Do not chase resolution above the recommended size. Instagram re-compresses every upload to 1080 pixels wide and YouTube re-encodes everything, so a 4K export is a slower upload that arrives at the same place.
- Keep text and faces out of the outer tenth of the frame on anything vertical. Stories and full screen surfaces put a profile row across the top and a reply bar across the bottom, and both sit over your image rather than beside it.
- Resize last. Crop, color and retouch on the full resolution original, then export the small versions from it. Every re-encode of an already compressed JPEG costs a little more detail.
- Never upscale to hit a number. A 640 pixel wide source stretched to 1080 looks soft in the feed, and it will look worse after the platform compresses it again. Shoot or export larger instead.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read, decoded and redrawn with canvas inside your browser, and the resized copy is handed straight to your downloads folder. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else, there is no account step, and closing the tab is all the cleanup there is.
Why will my iPhone photo not open?
It is almost certainly a HEIC file. That is the format iPhones save by default, and outside Safari most browsers cannot decode it at all, so the tool has nothing to draw. In Photos, use Share and pick a JPEG copy, or change Settings, Camera, Formats to Most Compatible so new photos are saved as JPEG.
Does resizing remove the location data from my photo?
Yes. Resizing here means drawing the pixels into a fresh canvas and encoding a new file, and that new file carries no EXIF block at all. GPS coordinates, camera model, serial number, date and time are all left behind. That is a genuine privacy win, and it also means a resized copy is not the one to keep for your archive.
Will resizing lower the quality of my image?
Scaling down is the safe direction and usually looks fine. What costs quality is the JPEG encode, which is why there is a quality slider: 0.85 is a good default, 0.9 to 1.0 is worth it for images with text or fine detail, and below 0.75 you start to see blocking in flat areas like sky. PNG is lossless, so the slider does not apply to it.
What size should a social media image be?
There is no single answer, which is the reason this tool exists. Instagram feed and Threads want 1080 x 1350, Instagram and Facebook Stories want 1080 x 1920, Facebook feed wants 1200 x 630, LinkedIn 1200 x 627, X 1600 x 900, TikTok photo posts 1080 x 1920, Pinterest 1000 x 1500, and a YouTube thumbnail 1280 x 720. Should I export as JPEG or PNG?
JPEG for anything photographic, PNG for anything with flat color, sharp text or a logo. PNG files are often five to ten times larger, which matters against a 4 MB Facebook cap or a 2 MB YouTube thumbnail cap. Note that TikTok photo posts accept JPEG and WEBP but not PNG.
