Social Media Video and Image Size Checker

Drop one file in and see where it lands. TikTok takes 4 GB, X stops at 512 MB, and a Reel wants 1080 x 1920 at 9:16 before any of that matters.

Last updated: 2026-07-31

One export almost never fits everywhere. TikTok accepts 4 GB and ten minutes. A standard X account is capped at 512 MB and 2 minutes 20 seconds. YouTube will take 256 GB and twelve hours, and Pinterest wants a video Pin between 4 seconds and 15 minutes. The same file sails through on one network and bounces off the next.

Almost every failed upload comes down to three numbers: file size, duration and aspect ratio. Everything else, frame rate included, is usually a preference rather than a rule. This checker reads those three straight from your file and compares them against the format each network is known for.

The measuring happens in your browser, using the same metadata a local video player reads. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and the temporary link to the file is discarded the moment the dimensions come back.

Your file never leaves your browser. The dimensions are read on your device and nothing is uploaded to us.

Pick a file and it is checked against all 8 networks at once.

The full spec sheet is below, so you can read the numbers without uploading anything.

Exporting once for eight networks

  • Export vertical once at 1080 x 1920 and it covers Reels, TikTok, Shorts, Stories and video Pins. Only Facebook, LinkedIn and X really want something wider.
  • H.264 inside an MP4 is the one combination every network here accepts. ProRes, HEVC and MKV all need converting first, and some browsers cannot even read them.
  • Duration is the limit that bites hardest when cross-posting. A three minute video is an ordinary TikTok, a rejected X post, and a clip that has stopped being eligible as a Short.
  • Compress before uploading rather than trusting the network to be gentle. Everything is re-encoded on the way in, so a 4 GB master and a clean 200 MB export usually reach viewers looking the same.
  • Check the safe areas as well as the numbers. Vertical video is legal at 9:16 on five networks and covered by a different set of buttons on every one of them.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum video size for social media?

It depends entirely on the network. YouTube accepts up to 256 GB, LinkedIn 5 GB, TikTok 4 GB, Facebook 4 GB, Pinterest 2 GB, Threads 1 GB and X 512 MB on a standard account. Instagram publishes a 1 GB ceiling for Reels.

What size should a video be for all social media?

1080 x 1920 at 9:16, H.264 in an MP4, under 200 MB and under 60 seconds clears every network on this page with room to spare. If you only get to make one export, make that one.

Does this tool upload my video?

No. The file is read in your browser through a temporary object URL, the same way a local player opens it. Nothing reaches Postify or anyone else, which is also why a multi gigabyte file is checked instantly.

Why was my video rejected even though the file size was fine?

Duration and aspect ratio reject more uploads than size does. Anything under the minimum length fails, which is 3 seconds on Instagram and TikTok and 4 seconds on Pinterest, and so does anything outside the accepted ratio range for that format.

What aspect ratio works on the most networks?

9:16 vertical. It is the native shape for Reels, TikTok, Shorts, Stories and video Pins, and it is accepted, if not ideal, on Facebook, LinkedIn and X. Square 1:1 is the runner up and the safer choice for a feed post.

Can I check images as well as video?

Yes. Drop in a JPG or PNG and the checker measures dimensions, ratio and file size against the image formats instead, including the 4 MB Facebook ceiling and the 2 MB YouTube thumbnail limit.
