The best social media manager and planner apps for your phone in 2026

Most social media tools have a phone app now, but they do very different jobs on it. Some let you plan, publish and reply from anywhere; others are companions that show the calendar and leave the real work to the desktop. We judged eight apps on what they let you do from a phone, using each vendor's own store listings and pricing pages.

TL;DR: For managing accounts from a phone, Postify (ours) adds iPhone widgets and a Live Activity to direct publishing and an inbox, Buffer is the simplest app with a free plan, Hootsuite and Sprout Social are strong companions for paid teams, Metricool brings ads data and an inbox, and Planable and Later are the best planners for grid and approval work.

By the Postify team at Businice S.R.L. Postify makes this site. We list ourselves first and say where other tools are stronger.

What is the best social media manager app?

The best social media manager app publishes straight from your phone, including Stories and Reels, and lets you reply to comments and messages there too. Postify (we make it), Buffer, Hootsuite, Later, Metricool, Planable, Sprout Social and Agorapulse all ship iOS and Android apps. They differ on direct Stories, mobile replies and how the price grows.

Most of these apps are companions to a web app: you sign in with the same account, and some features stay on the desktop. All eight run on iPhone and iPad according to their App Store listings, and all are free to download; what you pay for is the plan behind them.

Social media manager app vs social media planner app

A planner app is about deciding what goes out and when: calendar, drafts, grid preview. A manager app also publishes and handles replies. Most tools now do both, so the useful questions are whether the calendar works well on a phone and whether posts publish without a reminder.

If you mostly plan, judge the calendar and the grid: can you see the month, move a post by dragging it, and preview how the profile will look? If you also manage, judge the inbox and publishing: can you answer a DM from the train, and will a Story go out on time while your phone is in your pocket?

What to look for in a mobile social media app

Look for six things: direct publishing instead of reminders, a grid preview, an inbox you can reply from, widgets that show what is coming up, approvals you can give on the go, and an iPad layout if you plan on a bigger screen. No app is best at all six, so rank them by what you do most.

Here is how the apps on this list compare on each point, based on their own store listings and help pages:

  • Direct publishing vs reminders: some apps send a notification and leave the last tap to you for certain formats. Metricool does this for Instagram Stories with links, mentions or stickers, and for Reels with outside audio. Later says its scheduled posts publish automatically with no notification needed.
  • Grid preview: Later and Planable let you drag and drop posts in a grid view. Postify previews the Instagram, TikTok and Plative grids before posts go live.
  • Inbox on mobile: Hootsuite, Sprout Social and Metricool list replying to messages in their apps, and Agorapulse lists engaging with your audience. Postify has an inbox tab from the Plus plan.
  • Widgets: Postify has iPhone home screen widgets for followers, views, reach, likes and upcoming posts, lock screen stat widgets, plus a Live Activity that follows a post while it publishes. Buffer supports Shortcuts and the Action Button and has an Apple Watch app.
  • Approvals on the go: Hootsuite lets you approve content from the app, and Planable's app supports its approval workflow with real-time comments.
  • iPad: every app on this list runs on iPad according to its App Store listing.

Best social media planner apps

For planning rather than full management, the strongest phone apps are Planable for calendar, feed and grid views with approvals, Later for drag and drop Instagram grid planning, and Postify for a grid preview across Instagram, TikTok and Plative next to the calendar. Buffer suits simple queues, and its free plan costs nothing to try.

A good planner shows the month at a glance, lets you move posts around, and previews how a profile grid will look before anything goes live. If you would rather plan the ideas first, our free 30-day content calendar generator drafts a month of post ideas you can then schedule in any of these apps.

Did you mean an app to limit social media use?

If you want to spend less time in social apps rather than run accounts, you need a screen-time tool, not a manager app. Apple Screen Time and Android Digital Wellbeing are built in, and some dedicated apps add friction before a social app opens. Our guide to apps that reduce social media use compares them.

A manager app can help from the other side too: if you run accounts, scheduling a week of posts in one sitting means you open the social apps less often during the day.

How we checked

On 22 October 2026 we read each app's official App Store and Google Play listing, its vendor's pricing page and, where formats fall back to reminders, its help center. We compared what each app lets you do on the phone: publish (and whether Stories go out directly), plan with a calendar or grid, reply to comments and messages, approve posts, and glance at results without opening the app. We do not quote store ratings or download counts. We make Postify, so it is listed first; the others follow our judgment of how much of the job they cover on a phone. Competitor prices are in US dollars as the vendors list them. Postify bills in euros, so convert at your own rate before comparing.

1. Postify

Creators and small teams who want to plan, publish, reply and track from the phone

The Postify app (Postify | Social Media Manager on the App Store) runs on iPhone, iPad and Android and covers day-to-day work: write one post with its own caption per network, schedule it or add it to the queue, preview the Instagram, TikTok and Plative grids, and answer comments and DMs in the inbox tab from the Plus plan. Instagram and Facebook Stories publish directly, with no reminder to finish the post yourself. On iPhone, home screen widgets show followers, views, reach, likes and upcoming posts, stat widgets also fit the lock screen, a Control Center button opens a new post, and a Live Activity follows a post while it publishes.

Pros

  • +iPhone home screen widgets for followers, views, reach, likes and upcoming posts, plus lock screen stat widgets
  • +A Live Activity that follows a post while it publishes, and a Control Center button for a new post
  • +Instagram and Facebook Stories publish directly, with no phone reminder
  • +Grid preview for Instagram, TikTok and Plative
  • +Inbox tab for comments and DMs from the Plus plan
  • +A free 7-day trial on every plan

Cons

  • -No free plan, and Hobby is 1 brand, 1 user and 15 posts per month with no inbox
  • -Widgets and the Live Activity are iPhone only
  • -No Bluesky, Google Business Profile or Mastodon, and no TikTok or Pinterest inbox
  • -No built-in AI writer

Verdict: The pick if you want the phone to do real work: direct Stories, replies and a glanceable view of results and upcoming posts. Look elsewhere if you need a free plan or networks such as Bluesky.

Pricing: From €9.99 per month (€8.33 per month billed yearly) for 1 brand, 1 user and 15 posts per month; inbox from the Plus plan; the app is free to download

2. Buffer

Anyone who wants a simple, free phone app for scheduling

Buffer's app (Buffer: Plan & Schedule Posts) is one of the quickest ways to publish on the go. It schedules YouTube Shorts, TikToks, Instagram Reels and Stories, cross-posts to several networks with one tap, and keeps ideas organized. On iPhone it supports Shortcuts and the Action Button and has an Apple Watch app. The free plan covers 3 channels, so you can try it fully on a phone.

Pros

  • +Free plan for up to 3 channels
  • +Schedules Reels, Stories, Shorts and TikToks from the phone
  • +Shortcuts, Action Button and Apple Watch support
  • +Publishes to Bluesky and Mastodon too

Cons

  • -Cost grows with every channel
  • -The community inbox covers comments; DMs are not listed
  • -Approvals need the Team plan

Verdict: The easiest free start on a phone, best for publishing rather than conversation-heavy work.

Pricing: Free for up to 3 channels; Essentials $6 per channel per month ($5 billed yearly); Team $12 per channel per month ($10 billed yearly)

3. Hootsuite

Teams on a paid Hootsuite plan that approve and reply on the go

The Hootsuite app is a companion to a paid account, and a capable one. You can compose and schedule posts (including Instagram carousels and TikTok), check the planner, approve content from anywhere, follow streams of mentions and conversations, and filter, reply to and assign messages from the inbox.

Pros

  • +Approve content from the app
  • +Inbox with filtering, replies and assignment on the phone
  • +Streams for mentions and conversations

Cons

  • -Highest entry price on this list, priced per user
  • -No free plan

Verdict: A strong companion if your team already pays for Hootsuite; too much to buy just for the app.

Pricing: Standard $99 per user per month billed annually; no free plan; the app needs a Hootsuite account

4. Later

Instagram-first creators who plan the grid visually

Later's app (Later: Social Media Scheduler) is the most visual planner here: drag and drop posts in the Instagram grid, get Instagram best time to post and hashtag suggestions, schedule a first comment, and copy a published post to reschedule it on another network. Later says scheduled posts publish automatically with no notification required. The social inbox starts at the Growth plan, and the app listing does not mention replies.

Pros

  • +Drag and drop Instagram grid planning
  • +Instagram best time to post and hashtag suggestions
  • +First comment scheduling and post copying across networks

Cons

  • -No free plan on the pricing page
  • -Starter allows 30 posts per profile and 1 user
  • -Inbox and approvals start at Growth ($37.50 per month billed yearly)

Verdict: The planner to beat for Instagram grids; less useful if you need to reply from the phone.

Pricing: Starter $18.75 per month billed yearly for 1 social set of up to 8 profiles; Growth $37.50; Scale $82.50; 14-day trial

5. Metricool

Marketers who want analytics, ads data and an inbox in their pocket

Metricool's app brings the calendar, the inbox and analytics, including Facebook, Google and TikTok ads, to the phone. You can reply to messages and comments without leaving the app and get notifications that confirm posts went out. Some Instagram formats still need you: Stories with links, mentions or stickers, Reels with outside audio and carousels with videos over 60 seconds arrive as a phone notification instead of auto-publishing.

Pros

  • +Free plan, and the app works with it
  • +Inbox for messages and comments on the phone
  • +Ads analytics next to organic results

Cons

  • -Some Instagram Stories, Reels and carousels need a manual finish from a notification
  • -X is a paid add-on, and LinkedIn is not on the free plan

Verdict: A good all-rounder with a free start, as long as you are fine finishing some Instagram formats by hand.

Pricing: Free for 1 brand and 20 posts per month; Starter $25 per month billed monthly ($20 billed yearly) for up to 5 brands; X is an add-on at $10 per connected account per month

6. Planable

Teams and clients who review and approve posts from the phone

Planable's app (Planable: social media planner) brings its review workflow to the phone: calendar, grid and feed views, drag and drop in the grid, real-time comments and post approval, and bulk scheduling of Stories and posts. Unlimited users on every plan means reviewers do not need paid seats.

Pros

  • +Approve posts and leave comments from the phone
  • +Calendar, grid and feed views
  • +Unlimited users on every plan

Cons

  • -Monthly post caps: 60 per workspace on Basic, 150 on Pro
  • -The social inbox is a paid add-on below Enterprise

Verdict: The best phone app for sign-off; pair it with another tool if replies matter.

Pricing: Free for 50 posts in total; Basic $39 per workspace per month billed monthly ($33 billed yearly); Pro $59 ($49 billed yearly); unlimited users

7. Sprout Social

Paid Sprout Social teams that answer messages on the go

Sprout Social's app puts messages in one place, with replies, conversation history and task assignment from a message, and lets you post, schedule, queue or draft. It is a companion to a paid seat rather than a standalone app.

Pros

  • +Replies with conversation history on the phone
  • +Assign a task straight from a message
  • +Post, schedule, queue or draft from the app

Cons

  • -Every user is a paid seat, and there is no free plan
  • -Essentials has no consolidated inbox

Verdict: Excellent for message handling if your team already pays for Sprout Social.

Pricing: Essentials $99 per seat per month billed monthly ($79 billed annually); higher plans from $199 per seat per month billed annually

8. Agorapulse

Agorapulse teams who need to post and engage away from the desk

The Agorapulse Companion App lets you create and schedule posts, engage with your audience and check analytics from your phone. Its App Store listing names Facebook pages and groups, Instagram business profiles, X, LinkedIn profiles and company pages, and YouTube.

Pros

  • +Posting, engagement and analytics in one companion app
  • +30-day trial of the web plans with no card

Cons

  • -Per-user pricing
  • -Fewer phone-specific extras than the apps above

Verdict: A solid companion for Agorapulse users; not a reason to choose Agorapulse on its own.

Pricing: Standard $99 per user per month billed monthly ($79 billed annually); X needs an add-on, priced on request

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free social media manager app?
Buffer (free for up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each), Metricool (free for 1 brand and 20 posts per month) and Planable (free for 50 posts in total) all have free plans and iPhone and Android apps. Postify has no free plan, though its app is free to download.
Is there an app to manage all social media in one place?
Not every network, but close. Most apps here cover Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, X and Pinterest from one app. Postify covers nine networks, including Threads and Plative, but not Bluesky or Google Business Profile; Buffer adds Bluesky and Mastodon.
Can I post Instagram Stories automatically from my phone?
Yes, with an app that publishes Stories through Instagram's API. Postify publishes Instagram and Facebook Stories directly, and connects to Instagram through Instagram Login. Buffer's app lists Stories scheduling. Metricool sends a notification instead for Stories with links, mentions or stickers.
Do these apps work on iPad?
Yes. All eight apps on this list run on iPad according to their App Store listings, and Buffer also has an Apple Watch app.
Can I approve posts from my phone?
Yes, in Hootsuite and Planable, whose apps list approving content. Postify sends clients a per-post approval link from the Pro plan rather than running an internal approval workflow.
