Can ChatGPT or Claude post to social media for you?
Ask ChatGPT or Claude to post something on Instagram and it will happily write the caption, then tell you it cannot press publish. On their own, that is still true. What has changed is that you can now connect an assistant to a social media tool through an MCP connector, and then the tool does the posting under your account. This guide explains what works, what each route needs, and where a human should stay in charge.

TL;DR: Not on their own: ChatGPT and Claude write posts but have no login to your social accounts. Yes once connected: add an MCP connector from a social media tool (Buffer, Metricool, Hootsuite, Postify and others publish one), sign in, and the assistant can draft, schedule and publish through that tool and its approved access to Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and the rest.
By the Postify team at Businice S.R.L. Postify makes this site, and this guide covers it alongside other options.
Can Claude post to Instagram?
Yes, through a connector. Instagram only accepts posts from approved apps, so Claude needs a tool that is already approved, such as a scheduler with an MCP server. You sign in to that tool once, then ask Claude to schedule a post, and the tool publishes it with Instagram's official API.
The same pattern holds on every network: the assistant asks, the connected tool posts with the access you granted when you linked the account. The assistant never sees your social media password. What each network accepts through its API is set by the network, not by the assistant, so it is worth knowing the rules per platform.
- Instagram: the official API publishes for professional accounts (Business or Creator). Photos, Reels, carousels and Stories can all go out this way, and in Postify the account connects through Instagram Login.
- LinkedIn: posts can go to a personal profile or to a Company page you administer, as long as the tool supports both.
- TikTok: videos and photo posts go out through TikTok's official posting API, and TikTok sets its own rules on privacy settings and content disclosure.
- Facebook: posts go to Pages you manage. Meta's API does not publish to personal profiles, whichever tool or assistant you use.
- X: posts and threads publish through X's API, and X's automation rules apply to anything automated, including replies and DMs.
- YouTube: videos upload through YouTube's API with the title, description and privacy setting the tool sends.
- Pinterest: Pins publish to a board you choose through Pinterest's API.
- Threads: text, image and video posts publish through Meta's Threads API.
Three ways to let an AI assistant publish
There are three routes. An MCP connector from a social media tool is the quickest: add a URL, sign in, then ask. An automation platform such as Zapier, Make or n8n links ChatGPT to the networks through workflows you build. Custom code against each platform's API gives full control but needs a developer and app review.
MCP connector. The good: setup takes minutes, there is no code, and the assistant can see your calendar, queue and analytics as well as post. Most connectors sign you in with OAuth, so no password or key is pasted into a chat. The catch: you get only the actions and networks the tool supports, and some vendors keep the connector for paid plans.
Automation platform (Zapier, Make, n8n). The good: very flexible. A new row in a spreadsheet, a form entry or a new blog post can trigger an AI written post, and you can mix in the other apps you already use. The catch: more setup, every workflow is something you maintain, and these platforms bill by usage, so a busy workflow costs more as it runs. The assistant also cannot see your schedule unless you build that in.
Custom code with the platforms' APIs. The good: total control over what is posted and when. The catch: you need a developer, each network asks you to register an app and, for Meta and TikTok, pass a review before it may publish for other people, and API rules change often. X also charges for API access.
If you already pay for a scheduler, its MCP connector is usually the shortest path. Teams that live in Zapier or Make may prefer to keep everything there, and developers who need full control can go straight to the APIs.
Which social media tools have a ChatGPT or Claude connector?
Many do. In October 2026, Buffer, Metricool, Planable, Publer, Hootsuite, Vista Social, Agorapulse, SocialPilot, Zoho Social, Planoly, Postiz, Zernio, Blotato, Ayrshare and Postify all publish an official MCP server or connector. They differ in how you sign in, which assistants they document, which plans include it, and whether the assistant can publish or only create drafts.
The table below covers five of them. Our full, dated comparison of every official social media MCP server, including sign in, plan access and self hosting, is in the guide to social media MCP servers linked at the end of this page.
One difference matters more than it looks: some connectors publish, and some deliberately stop at a draft. Planable, for example, says its assistant creates drafts and nothing goes live until someone on your team approves it. That is a feature if you want a human gate; it is a limit if you want the assistant to finish the job.
| Tool | Sign in | Assistants documented | Plans | What the assistant can do |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Postify | OAuth, no API key | Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients | Every plan, Hobby included | Create, schedule and publish posts; queue, analytics, inbox and link in bio |
| Buffer | OAuth or personal API key | Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Perplexity and others | Every plan, Free included | Create and schedule posts into your Buffer queue, save ideas |
| Metricool | OAuth or API token | Claude, ChatGPT (developer mode), Cursor, Gemini CLI and others | Every plan, Free included | Schedule and edit posts, read analytics and best times |
| Planable | Connector sign in | Claude, ChatGPT | Paid plans and the free 50-post start | Create drafts for your team to approve; nothing publishes on its own |
| Publer | OAuth or scoped API key | Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Grok | Business and Enterprise plans | Create and schedule posts through the Publer workspace |
How to connect ChatGPT or Claude to Postify
Add Postify's server URL, https://api.postify.tech/mcp, as a custom connector in Claude or ChatGPT, sign in to Postify when asked, then ask the assistant to schedule a post. There is no API key to copy. The connector is included on every Postify plan and allows up to 120 requests a minute per user.
A note on ChatGPT: its custom connector flow is newer, and we have not yet confirmed a full Postify session in ChatGPT from end to end, so treat ChatGPT support as unconfirmed for now. Claude is confirmed. Postify is also not listed in ChatGPT's app directory yet, which is why you add it as a custom server.
Check the assistant side too. Anthropic's help center says custom connectors work on Claude's Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, with Free limited to one custom connector, and that Team and Enterprise owners add them for the whole organization. OpenAI's help center, read the same day, lists full custom MCP server connections for ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu on the web, with read and fetch access only on Pro, so check what your own plan shows under Plugins.
Besides posting, the connector can read your queue, post insights and profile analytics, manage recurring posts, and work in the inbox. It also writes at most 20 changes a minute per user, which is plenty for scheduling a week of posts in one conversation. The step by step pages for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor are linked at the end of this page.
Steps
- Open the connector settings. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, choose + Add and then Add custom connector. In ChatGPT, open Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
- Add the server URL. Name the connector Postify and paste https://api.postify.tech/mcp as the URL. In ChatGPT, choose OAuth as the authentication, accept the warning about custom servers, and select Create as a plugin.
- Sign in with OAuth. Choose Connect and sign in with your Postify account. The assistant gets access to Postify only, never your social media passwords, and you can remove the connector at any time.
- Ask it to schedule a post. Start a new chat, make sure Postify is turned on in the tools menu (in ChatGPT, type @Postify), and ask something like: schedule this caption and photo to Instagram and LinkedIn for Tuesday at 9am. Approve the action when the assistant asks.
What to keep a human on
Review before anything publishes. AI drafts can get facts, prices, dates and offers wrong, and a scheduled mistake goes out on time. Keep a person on approvals, brand voice and replies to complaints, and never let an assistant answer unhappy customers alone. Platforms may also expect a label on realistic AI generated images and video.
Decide how much the assistant may do without asking. Claude asks before it runs a tool that changes something unless you choose to always allow it, and Anthropic's own advice is to review those requests carefully. Saving posts as drafts first, or sending a client an approval link before anything is scheduled, keeps a human in the loop. In Postify, client approval links are on Pro and up.
Label AI media where the platform asks for it. When a post is marked as made with AI, Postify publishes it with the platform's own AI label where the API offers one: Instagram feed photos, Reels and carousels (Stories have no such field), TikTok posts, and YouTube's altered or synthetic content setting.
Treat replies with more care than posts. Postify's connector can read and answer comments and messages in the unified inbox, which is on Plus and up. Let the assistant draft replies for you to approve, rather than answer everything unattended, and keep complaints, refunds and anything legal with a person.
Frequently asked questions
- Can ChatGPT post to Instagram directly?
- No. ChatGPT has no Instagram login, and Instagram only accepts posts from approved apps. Connect ChatGPT to a social media tool that has an MCP server and an approved Instagram connection, and ChatGPT can ask that tool to publish or schedule the post for you.
- Is it safe to give ChatGPT or Claude access to my social media accounts?
- With an OAuth connector you never hand over a password. You sign in to the social media tool, and the assistant can only use the actions that tool's connector offers. You can remove the connector at any time. Both OpenAI and Anthropic advise connecting only servers from vendors you trust.
- Does ChatGPT need a paid plan to use connectors?
- For custom MCP servers, OpenAI's help center (read on 22 October 2026) lists full access for ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu on the web, and read and fetch access only for Pro. Claude's custom connectors work on every Claude plan, with one custom connector on the Free plan. Availability changes often, so check the Plugins or Connectors page in your own account.
- Can ChatGPT schedule posts for later?
- Yes, through a connected scheduler. Ask for a date and time and the tool queues the post; the chat does not need to stay open. With Postify the assistant can also add posts to your queue's time slots or set up recurring posts, which are on Plus and up.
- Can Claude reply to comments and DMs?
- Yes, if the connected tool exposes an inbox. Postify's connector can list and answer comments and messages from the unified inbox on Plus and up: comments on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, X, YouTube and Plative, and DMs on Facebook, Instagram and Plative.
- Does Instagram allow posts made through ChatGPT?
- Yes, when they go through a tool that uses Instagram's official API. The post is published by an approved app after you signed in, just like scheduling it by hand. What Instagram's terms forbid is unapproved automated access, such as bots that log in as you or collect data without permission.
