X (Twitter) Header Resizer
X recommends a 1500 x 500 header and warns that 60 pixels at the top and bottom could be cropped. Crop to the size and see those lines before you upload.
Last updated: 2026-10-25
The X header is 1500 x 500 at 3:1, and X accepts JPG, GIF or PNG, though not animated GIFs. The detail most people miss is in the help center: 60 pixels on the top and bottom could be cropped. That leaves a 1500 x 380 band in the middle as the part you can count on.
This resizer crops your image to 1500 x 500 and draws that band on top, so text and logos go where they will stay. X publishes no file size cap for headers, so the dimensions and that band are the numbers that matter.
The crop runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Once the header is live, plan the posts that go under it: Postify schedules your X posts ahead of time.
Your image never leaves your browser. The crop and the export both run on your device, and nothing is uploaded to us. HEIC photos straight from an iPhone only decode in Safari, so export a JPEG copy first if yours will not open.

Export format
0.85 is the safe default. Push to 0.95 for images with text, drop toward 0.7 only when you are fighting a tight file size cap.
Re-encoding through canvas also drops the EXIF block, so the file you download carries no GPS coordinates, camera model or timestamp.

Tips
- Keep text inside the middle 380 pixels. Anything in the top or bottom 60 pixels of a 1500 x 500 header may be cut.
- Save an animated design as a still. X accepts GIF headers but not animated ones, so export a single frame as JPG or PNG.
- Let the background run to every edge. The strips that could be cropped are not always cut, so a photo or texture that fills the frame looks finished either way.
Frequently asked questions
What size is an X header?
1500 x 500 pixels at 3:1, in JPG, GIF or PNG (not animated). X notes that 60 pixels on the top and bottom could be cropped, so treat the middle 1500 x 380 as the safe part.
Is there a file size limit for X headers?
X does not publish one for headers on its help pages, so this page does not quote one. Stick to the 1500 x 500 size and a still JPG or PNG and the header uploads like any other image.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is cropped with canvas inside this tab and the result goes to your downloads folder. Nothing reaches Postify or X until you upload the header yourself.
