TikTok Photo Resizer
Crop a photo to the 1080 x 1920 that a TikTok photo post expects, with room for the caption and the action rail that sit over the bottom and the right edge of every frame.
Last updated: 2026-08-03
A TikTok photo post is full screen and vertical: 1080 x 1920 at 9:16, up to 35 images per post, and the first one becomes the cover. Anything less tall than 9:16 is either letterboxed or cropped, and on a surface where the image is the entire screen that gap is very visible.
There is a format trap here worth knowing before you export. The TikTok publishing API accepts JPEG and WEBP but not PNG, so a PNG export that works everywhere else will be refused when you schedule it. Pick JPEG in the format toggle below and the problem disappears. The file cap is a generous 20 MB, tied with Pinterest for the most room of any network here.
The other constraint is layout rather than pixels. The caption, the sound label and the action rail cover the bottom sixth and the right edge of the frame, so a photo with its subject in the bottom right corner is partly hidden behind the interface. Use the focus grid to move the crop before you export. Nothing is uploaded: the whole thing runs in your browser.
Your image never leaves your browser. The crop and the export both run on your device, and nothing is uploaded to us. HEIC photos straight from an iPhone only decode in Safari, so export a JPEG copy first if yours will not open.
TikTok sizes to export
Each one is cropped to fill the frame, centered on the focus point you pick.
Focus point
What every crop stays centered on when the shapes do not match.
Focus: Center
Export format
0.85 is the safe default. Push to 0.95 for images with text, drop toward 0.7 only when you are fighting a tight file size cap.
Re-encoding through canvas also drops the EXIF block, so the file you download carries no GPS coordinates, camera model or timestamp.
TikTok image sizes
Every TikTok surface that takes a still image, with the size to export at and the ceiling the file has to stay under.
| Surface | Export at | Aspect ratio | Max file size | File types |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photo post | 1080 x 1920 | 9:16 | 20 MB | JPG, WEBP |
Sizes verified 2026-07-31. The file size ceilings are the ones the networks publish, and a scheduling tool sitting in front of them can be tighter still.
JPEG or PNG, and what the quality slider does
The resolution decides whether your image fits the frame. The format and the quality setting decide whether it fits the file size cap, and those are two different problems.
JPEG
Photographs, screenshots of video, anything with gradients
Lossy, and that is the point: a 1080 pixel wide photo lands between 100 KB and 500 KB at quality 0.85, which clears every file size cap on this page with room to spare. The artifacts it introduces hide well in detail and texture.
PNG
Logos, charts, diagrams, screenshots of text, flat color
Lossless, so text stays crisp and flat areas stay flat. The cost is size: the same image can be five to ten times larger than the JPEG, which is what pushes a thumbnail past 2 MB or a Facebook image past 4 MB.
The quality slider only applies to JPEG, and it runs from 0.6 to 1.0. At 0.85, the default here, the difference from the original is invisible at normal viewing size on almost any photograph. Above 0.95 the file grows quickly for very little gain. Below about 0.75 you start to see blocking in skies and other large flat areas, which is the first thing that gives away an over-compressed image.
One thing worth knowing either way: every network re-compresses what you upload. Exporting at maximum quality does not protect the detail, it just means the image is compressed twice. A clean file at the recommended size and a sensible quality survives that better than an enormous one.
TikTok image tips
- Export at 1080 x 1920 at 9:16. TikTok photo posts are full screen, so anything shorter leaves bars or gets cropped.
- Choose JPEG, not PNG. The publishing API accepts JPEG and WEBP only, so a PNG file fails at schedule time even though it looks fine on your desktop.
- Keep the subject out of the bottom sixth and the right edge. That is where the caption, the sound label and the like, comment and share buttons sit.
- The first image is the cover and does most of the work. Crop it as if it were a thumbnail rather than as the first page of a sequence.
- The 20 MB cap is generous, so there is no reason to over-compress. Quality 0.9 on a 1080 x 1920 JPEG is still only a couple of megabytes.
- TikTok compresses on upload. A clean 1080 x 1920 export survives that far better than a 4K file that has to be crunched twice.
Frequently asked questions
What size should a TikTok photo be?
1080 x 1920 pixels at 9:16, the same full screen vertical frame TikTok uses for video. A photo post carries up to 35 images with a 20 MB cap per file, and the first image becomes the cover.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere by this tool?
No. Everything happens in your browser using canvas, and the resized file goes straight to your downloads. Nothing is sent to our servers, and nothing reaches TikTok until you post it yourself.
Why does my iPhone photo not open?
iPhones save HEIC by default and most browsers cannot decode it, so there is nothing to draw. Export a JPEG copy from Photos, or set Settings, Camera, Formats to Most Compatible. That also solves the TikTok side, since it does not accept HEIC either.
Does resizing strip the location data from my photo?
Yes. The output is encoded from a fresh canvas with no EXIF block, so GPS coordinates, camera model and timestamps are all dropped. On a platform where photo posts often come straight from a camera roll, that is a meaningful difference.
Will the photo lose quality on TikTok?
TikTok compresses hard on upload, so start clean: 1080 x 1920 at JPEG quality 0.85 to 0.9. Uploading a 4K original does not protect the detail, it just means the file is compressed twice before anyone sees it.
Why was my PNG rejected by TikTok?
The content posting API accepts JPEG and WEBP for photo posts, not PNG. Convert before scheduling: pick JPEG in the format toggle here and the export is already in an accepted format.
