Best Time to Post on Instagram

Instagram peaks in the evening, not at lunch: Wednesday at 19:00 is the single strongest slot, inside a weekday window that runs from 18:00 to 20:00.

Last updated: 2026-07-31

The advice to post on Instagram at 11:00 has outlived the app it was written for. There is still a real lunch rise, roughly 11:00 to 13:00, but it tops out below where the evening starts: on a midweek day the 12:00 peak sits under the 18:00 level and well under 19:00.

The evening window is where the network actually is. Attention climbs from 17:00, passes lunch by 18:00, peaks at 19:00, and holds through 20:00 before dropping away after 21:00. Wednesday at 19:00 is the strongest cell in the grid, with Tuesday and Thursday a point behind and Friday noticeably softer.

Weekends are flatter rather than worse. Saturday holds a long plateau from midday to about 20:00, so the exact minute matters less, and Sunday evening comes back to weekday strength at 19:00. If you post five days a week the weekday evenings earn the slots, and if you post seven, Sunday evening is the weekend one worth keeping.

PeakScores are relative within one network, never across two.
Instagram, relative posting activity by hour. Hours are in your audience local time. Picking a time zone only labels the plan, it does not shift the times.

Instagram has two peaks a day and they are not the same size. The lunch block, roughly 11:00 to 13:00, is a real rise and tops out around 12:00 on a weekday. The evening block is bigger: attention climbs from 17:00, passes the lunch peak by 18:00, and reaches its high point at 19:00 before falling away after 21:00.

Midweek is where those peaks are strongest. Wednesday 19:00 is the single best cell in the Instagram grid, with Tuesday and Thursday a point or two behind it, and Monday and Friday noticeably softer at the same hour. Nothing about a Friday evening post is wrong, it just starts from a lower base than the same post on Wednesday.

Weekends behave differently rather than badly. Saturday flattens out into a long plateau from midday to about 20:00, so the exact minute matters less, and Sunday evening comes back up to weekday strength at 19:00. If you only post five times a week, the weekday evenings earn the slots. If you post seven, Sunday evening is the one weekend slot worth protecting.

How to post to Instagram

How we build these estimates

What the numbers are

Aggregated engagement patterns: published posting-time studies, the daily rhythms each network reports about its own audience, and how people actually use each app. We turn that into one relative score per hour, 0 to 100, within a single network.

What they are not

They are not measurements of your account, and no personal data goes into them. Nothing here is derived from any individual profile, including the ones inside Postify. They are estimates, reviewed in July 2026, meant as a starting point you then test.

Why scores, not percentages

A score of 80 on Instagram and 80 on LinkedIn do not mean the same volume of anything. Each grid is scaled inside its own network, so the only useful comparison is between two hours on the same network, never between two networks.

Industry adjustments

Picking an industry shifts whole parts of the day rather than single hours: fitness lifts the morning, food and beverage lifts lunch, finance and tech lift working hours and pull the evening down. The shape of the network stays, the emphasis moves.

Timing estimates are aggregated engagement patterns from public posting-time studies and platform posting behaviour, last reviewed July 2026. They are a starting point, not a measurement of your account.

Getting more out of your Instagram timing

  • Take the 18:00 to 20:00 window, pick one hour inside it, and keep it. Instagram rewards a rhythm your followers can learn more than it rewards a perfect hour you hit once.
  • Be there for the first hour. Replying to early comments while the post is still being distributed is the cheapest way to extend its run, and it is why a 19:00 slot beats a 22:00 one even when both look fine on paper.
  • Reels and feed posts can share the same window. Reels travel past your followers either way, but a strong first hour still helps them start, so there is no reason to move them out of the evening.
  • Set the schedule on your audience time zone, not your own. Instagram shows you where your followers are, and these hours are theirs.
  • Give any change three weeks. Instagram engagement swings enough week to week that a single quiet Wednesday says nothing about the slot.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to post on Instagram?

Wednesday at 19:00 is the strongest single slot on these estimates, and the evening window from 18:00 to 20:00 is strong on every day. Tuesday and Thursday at 19:00 are within a point of Wednesday, so anything midweek in that window is a good slot.

What is the best day to post on Instagram?

Wednesday, followed closely by Tuesday and Thursday. Monday and Friday evenings are noticeably softer at the same hour, and Saturday is the weakest day of the week overall, though it never drops far.

Is it better to post on Instagram in the morning or the evening?

Evening. There is a genuine lunch rise around 11:00 to 13:00, but it stays below the 18:00 to 20:00 block on every day of the week. Mornings before 09:00 are the weakest usable hours on the grid.

When should I post Reels on Instagram?

The same evening window works. Reels reach beyond your followers, so the hour matters a little less than it does for a feed post, but the first hour of engagement still shapes how far the Reel travels, and there are simply more people watching at 19:00 than at 09:00.

Does posting time still matter on Instagram in 2026?

It matters less than it did before recommendations took over the feed, and more than people who post at random assume. The hour no longer decides who sees a post, but it decides how many people are around to react in the first hour, and that is still an input to how far it goes.
