The best YouTube schedulers in 2026

YouTube is the one network where the free built-in scheduler is also the most capable. YouTube Studio schedules any upload, long or short, and runs Premieres, while third-party tools go through the YouTube Data API, with its daily quota and upload rules. So the real question is whether you need YouTube inside a wider posting plan. We compared YouTube Studio and four schedulers using Google's developer documentation, YouTube Help and each vendor's own pages.

TL;DR: If you upload long videos, use YouTube Studio: it is free, schedules any upload and runs Premieres. Postify is our pick for Shorts and short videos of up to three minutes that go out with the rest of your networks, with YouTube comments in the same inbox. Metricool schedules long videos with playlists and has a free plan, Publer covers videos and Shorts on per-account pricing, and Buffer handles Shorts only.

By the Postify team at Businice S.R.L. Postify makes this site. We list ourselves first and say where other tools are stronger.

What should a YouTube scheduler do?

A YouTube scheduler should upload your video at the time you set, with the title, description, privacy, thumbnail and audience settings you chose, and no reminder step. Check the longest video it accepts first, because some tools handle Shorts only. Then compare playlists, first comments, a comment inbox, how it fits your other networks, and price.

Length is the first filter. YouTube treats square or vertical videos of up to three minutes as Shorts, and many schedulers are built around that format: Buffer supports Shorts only, and Postify accepts videos of up to three minutes and 1 GB. If your channel is built on long videos, YouTube Studio is the safest route; Metricool and Publer also publish regular videos, but check their file limits (Metricool's is 500 MB).

Settings come next: privacy, category, tags, made for kids, a custom thumbnail and a first comment. A scheduler that skips them leaves you fixing the upload in YouTube Studio afterwards. Custom thumbnails also need a verified YouTube account, whichever tool you use.

Finally, think about replies. Comments are where a YouTube audience talks back, so check whether a tool brings them into a shared inbox or leaves them in YouTube Studio.

What does the YouTube Data API let a scheduler do?

The YouTube Data API lets apps upload videos with a title of up to 100 characters, a description of up to 5,000 bytes, tags, a category and a privacy setting. Each project gets 100 uploads a day by default, and more quota needs a compliance audit. An app can also upload a private video with a publish time.

These limits apply to the app, not to you, but they shape every tool. Google gives each project 100 upload calls plus 10,000 units for other requests per day, reset at midnight Pacific time, and asks projects that need more to pass an audit against the YouTube API Services Terms. Tools also set their own caps: Metricool allows 10 YouTube posts a day on its free plan and 20 on paid plans, and Buffer limits unverified YouTube accounts to 10 posts per 24 hours.

There are two ways to schedule through the API. A tool can upload the video right away as private with a publishAt time, and YouTube makes it public at that moment; or it can keep the file and upload it at the scheduled time, which is what Postify does. The first lets you check the video in YouTube Studio before release; the second keeps everything in the scheduler until it posts. Neither sets up a Premiere, which stays a YouTube Studio feature in every tool we checked.

One older rule no longer applies: Google's upload reference now says videos from unverified API projects are not restricted to private viewing. If an upload comes out private, check the privacy setting first; when none is set, it defaults to public.

  • Uploads: files up to 256 GB through the API; your account's own length limit still applies (15 minutes until it is verified).
  • Metadata: title up to 100 characters, description up to 5,000 bytes, tags, category, privacy (public, unlisted, private).
  • Scheduled release: publishAt works only on private videos that have never been published.
  • Quota: 100 uploads and 10,000 units of other calls per project per day by default; more needs an audit.

Can you schedule YouTube videos without a third-party tool?

Yes. YouTube Studio schedules any upload for free: choose Schedule in the visibility step and set the date, time and time zone, on desktop or in the YouTube app. The video stays private until it publishes. For regular videos you can instead set a Premiere with a countdown and live chat, but Shorts cannot premiere.

For a single channel that publishes long videos, YouTube Studio covers most of what a scheduler would: it is free, accepts anything your account can upload (up to 12 hours or 256 GB once verified), and sets custom thumbnails for verified accounts. YouTube notes that a Community Guidelines strike can block scheduled publishing, so check the channel's status if a video does not go live.

A third-party scheduler pays off when the same clip goes to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels, or when YouTube is one of several networks in a team calendar. The scheduler then handles the upload and the other networks together, and long videos can still go through Studio.

Which YouTube schedulers handle Shorts and long videos?

YouTube Studio, Metricool and Publer publish both regular videos and Shorts, though Metricool caps files at 500 MB. Postify publishes videos of up to three minutes and 1 GB, which covers Shorts but not long-form, and Buffer supports Shorts only. We found no Premiere option in the third-party tools we checked, so Premieres stay in YouTube Studio.

The table sums up the YouTube features we could verify on each vendor's own pages. "Not documented" means we did not find the feature on the official pages, not that it is missing. Prices are list prices for the cheapest paid plan in US dollars; Postify bills in euros, so compare at your own exchange rate.

How we checked

We scored each tool on five YouTube jobs: which uploads it publishes (Shorts and long videos), the YouTube settings it exposes (privacy, thumbnails, playlists, audience), how it handles scheduled release and Premieres, a comment inbox, and price for one channel. YouTube's rules come from the YouTube Data API documentation and YouTube Help, and every competitor fact comes from the vendor's own pricing page or help center, read on the date shown. Where a vendor did not document a feature, we left it out rather than guess. We make Postify, so check our claims against the same criteria.

1. Postify

YouTube Shorts and short videos alongside other networks, with YouTube comments in one inbox

Postify uploads YouTube videos of up to three minutes and 1 GB at the time you schedule, which covers Shorts and short horizontal clips. Each upload carries a title, description, tags, privacy (public, unlisted or private), category, a custom thumbnail, notify-subscribers and made-for-kids settings and an AI-content disclosure, and from the Plus plan a first comment, with YouTube comments in the inbox. Competitor benchmarks compare your channel with public YouTube channels. The calendar also publishes to Instagram, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, Pinterest and Plative, our own social network, nine platforms in all. Every plan includes Postify Link and our MCP server, so your own AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, can draft and schedule uploads for you.

Pros

  • +Shorts and short videos upload directly with the full set of YouTube settings
  • +One post with a separate caption per network for Shorts, TikTok and Reels
  • +YouTube comments in the inbox and a first comment, from the Plus plan
  • +Competitor benchmarks against public YouTube channels
  • +Link in bio page and MCP server access on every plan
  • +A free 7-day trial on every plan

Cons

  • -Videos are capped at three minutes and 1 GB, so no long-form uploads
  • -No Premieres and no playlists: the video is uploaded at the scheduled time rather than queued in YouTube
  • -Best-time suggestions cover Instagram only, not YouTube
  • -No free plan, and the entry plan is 1 brand, 1 user and 15 posts a month
  • -No built-in AI writer, no CSV upload, and no public REST API, Zapier or Make (the MCP server is the programmatic route)

Verdict: Pick Postify when YouTube Shorts are part of a wider posting plan and you want the same clip, captions and comments handled with your other networks. For long videos or Premieres, upload in YouTube Studio; if you want long videos from a scheduler, Metricool is the closest fit.

Pricing: From €9.99 per month (€8.33 billed yearly) for 1 brand, 1 user and 15 posts per month; queues, recurring posts and the inbox from the Plus plan

2. YouTube Studio

Long videos, Premieres and any single-channel upload, for free

YouTube Studio is YouTube's own upload and channel tool, on desktop and in the YouTube app. Scheduling is part of the upload flow: you pick a date, time and time zone, and the video stays private until it publishes. Videos can run 15 minutes by default and longer once the account is verified, up to 12 hours or 256 GB, and regular videos can be set as a Premiere with a countdown and live chat. Custom thumbnails need a verified account.

Pros

  • +Free and built in
  • +Any length your account allows, up to 12 hours
  • +Premieres with a countdown and live chat
  • +No API quota or third-party app involved

Cons

  • -YouTube only: every other network needs another tool
  • -Shorts cannot be set as Premieres

Verdict: Use YouTube Studio for long videos and Premieres, and whenever YouTube is the only network you publish to.

Pricing: Free

3. Metricool

Long YouTube videos with playlists from a multi-network scheduler, and a free start

Metricool schedules standard YouTube videos and Shorts as MP4 or MOV files of up to 500 MB. The composer covers the title, a custom thumbnail, a first comment, playlists, notify subscribers, made for kids, privacy, category, tags and, on the web, an AI-generated content flag. It allows 10 YouTube posts per 24 hours on the free plan and 20 on paid plans, and notes that unverified channels cannot upload videos over 15 minutes. Metricool also offers an MCP server on every plan.

Pros

  • +Standard videos and Shorts
  • +Playlists, thumbnail and first comment in the composer
  • +Free plan for 1 brand and 20 posts per month
  • +MCP server on every plan, Free included

Cons

  • -Files are capped at 500 MB, small for long high-resolution videos
  • -10 YouTube posts per 24 hours on Free, 20 on paid plans

Verdict: Pick Metricool if you want long videos and Shorts scheduled from the same tool as your other networks, and your files stay under 500 MB.

Pricing: Free for 1 brand and 20 posts per month; Starter $25 per month billed monthly or $20 billed yearly, for up to 5 brands

4. Publer

Videos and Shorts on per-account pricing, with Shorts reminders as an option

Publer creates YouTube videos and Shorts with a title and a public, private or unlisted setting, and lets you post each Short automatically or through a reminder. It also flags a limit that applies to every third-party tool: on a monetized channel, you switch monetization on for each video in YouTube Studio, because the YouTube API does not allow it. Paid plans are priced per social account, and the Business plan adds Publer's API and MCP server.

Pros

  • +Videos and Shorts from one composer
  • +Shorts can publish automatically or by reminder
  • +Free plan for 3 social accounts

Cons

  • -Its YouTube help does not list file size or length limits, so test long uploads first
  • -The API and MCP server are not on the entry paid plan

Verdict: Pick Publer if you want videos and Shorts on per-account pricing and like the option of finishing a Short on your phone.

Pricing: Free for 3 social accounts (no X), 10 scheduled posts per account and 1 user; Professional starts at $5 per month and Business at $10 per month, each with 1 social account; yearly billing is 20% cheaper

5. Buffer

YouTube Shorts on a small budget

Buffer supports YouTube Shorts only and says long-form videos are not supported. Shorts of up to three minutes publish automatically, while longer ones and Shorts that use YouTube library sounds go out as notifications. Titles run to 100 characters and descriptions to 5,000, custom thumbnails are not available for Shorts, and the category cannot be changed. YouTube comments appear in Buffer's Community inbox, and unverified YouTube accounts are limited to 10 posts per 24 hours.

Pros

  • +Free plan for 3 channels
  • +YouTube comments in the Community inbox
  • +Per-channel pricing keeps one channel cheap

Cons

  • -Shorts only, no long-form videos
  • -No custom thumbnails for Shorts, and the category is fixed

Verdict: Pick Buffer if your YouTube channel is Shorts only and you want to start free.

Pricing: Free for 3 channels and 10 scheduled posts per channel; Essentials $6 per channel per month ($5 billed yearly); 14-day trial

Frequently asked questions

What is the best YouTube scheduler?
It depends on video length. For long videos and Premieres, YouTube Studio is free and does everything. For Shorts and short videos published with your other networks, we recommend Postify. Metricool schedules long videos with playlists, Publer prices per account, and Buffer handles Shorts only. We make Postify, so weigh it against the criteria above.
Can you schedule YouTube Shorts?
Yes. YouTube Studio and the YouTube app schedule Shorts like any upload, and Postify, Metricool, Publer and Buffer publish Shorts from a scheduler. Shorts cannot be set as Premieres. YouTube treats square or vertical videos of up to three minutes as Shorts; upload in 16:9 if you want a regular video.
Can you schedule YouTube videos for free?
Yes. YouTube Studio schedules any upload for free, and Metricool, Publer and Buffer have free plans with post caps. Postify has no free plan, but every plan starts with a free 7-day trial.
Why can't I upload a video longer than 15 minutes?
YouTube limits uploads to 15 minutes until the account is verified; verified accounts can upload up to 12 hours or 256 GB. The limit follows your account, so it applies to schedulers too. Some schedulers also set lower caps of their own, such as Postify at three minutes.
Can a scheduler set a YouTube Premiere?
We found no Premiere option in the third-party schedulers we checked, so set Premieres in YouTube Studio. Shorts cannot premiere at all. A scheduler can still release a video at a set time, either by uploading it as private with a publish time or by uploading it at that moment.
Why did my scheduled YouTube video upload as private?
Check the privacy setting on the post first. Tools that use YouTube's publishAt upload the video as private and YouTube makes it public at the set time, so it looks private until then. Google's upload reference says videos from unverified API projects are no longer locked to private.
Does Postify reply to YouTube comments?
Yes, from the Plus plan. YouTube comments appear in Postify's inbox next to Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, X and Plative, and you can add a first comment to each upload. The Hobby and Starter plans have no inbox.
