Facebook Reels Size Checker
A Facebook Reel runs from 3 to 90 seconds and wants 1080 x 1920 at 9:16. Drop a video in and see whether it fits before it goes into the schedule.

Facebook Reels are short by design. The Reels publishing API, which is what scheduling tools post through, takes video from 3 to 90 seconds and at least 540 x 960 pixels, with 1080 x 1920 at 9:16 recommended. Anything between 16:9 and 9:16 is accepted.
Runtime is the limit that bites. A Facebook feed video can run for hours, but a Reel stops at 90 seconds, so a clip cut for Instagram, where a Reel can run much longer, often needs a second, shorter edit for Facebook.
Facebook does not publish a separate size ceiling for Reels, so the 4 GB video limit applies and file size is rarely the problem. The checker reads your file in your browser and compares it with the Reel format only.
Your file never leaves your browser. The dimensions are read on your device and nothing is uploaded to us.
Pick a file and every Facebook format is checked against it at once.
The full spec sheet is below, so you can read the numbers without uploading anything.
Facebook video and image specs
Every Facebook surface with its own limits, in one place. These are the platform ceilings, so an upload that clears them still has to clear whatever your publishing tool allows.
Facebook Feed image
| Max file size | 4 MB |
|---|---|
| Recommended size | 1200 x 630 |
| Aspect ratio | 1.91:1 recommended, 1:1.78 to 1.91:1 accepted |
| File types | JPG, PNG |
- Link previews render at 1.91:1. A photo post keeps whatever ratio you upload, so the same file gets two different crops.
- The 4 MB cap is lower than any other network here allows for a post image, and it is the single most common Facebook upload rejection.
Facebook Feed video
| Max file size | 4 GB |
|---|---|
| Duration | 1 second to 4 hours |
| Recommended size | 1080 x 1350 |
| Aspect ratio | 4:5 recommended, 1:1.78 to 1.78:1 accepted |
| Bitrate | Up to 25 Mbps |
| File types | MP4, MOV |
- 4 GB and 240 minutes are the ceilings Facebook publishes. They are not advice: feed video under a minute holds attention far better.
- Scheduling tools publish feed video through the Pages API, which is commonly capped around 300 MB and 90 seconds. Longer cuts need a native upload.
Facebook Reel
| Max file size | 4 GB |
|---|---|
| Duration | 3 seconds to 90 seconds |
| Recommended size | 1080 x 1920 |
| Minimum size | 540 x 960 |
| Aspect ratio | 9:16 recommended, 1:1.78 to 1.78:1 accepted |
| Bitrate | Up to 25 Mbps |
| File types | MP4, MOV |
- Facebook does not publish a separate size ceiling for Reels, so the 4 GB video limit applies.
- A Reel that also runs on Instagram can be the same export: both surfaces want 1080 x 1920 at 9:16.
Facebook Story
| Max file size | 100 MB |
|---|---|
| Duration | 3 seconds to 60 seconds |
| Recommended size | 1080 x 1920 |
| Aspect ratio | 9:16 recommended, 1:2 to 1:1 accepted |
| Bitrate | Up to 25 Mbps |
| File types | MP4, MOV, JPG, PNG |
- One card holds 60 seconds. Anything longer is split into cards when you post from the app.
- Meta's ads guidance for Facebook Stories keeps text and logos out of the top 14 percent, the bottom 35 percent and 6 percent of each side, because the interface covers those areas.

Facebook export tips
- Edit to 90 seconds or less. That is the hard stop for Reels, and a longer cut belongs in the feed as an ordinary video.
- Reuse your Instagram Reel export when it is short enough. Both surfaces want 1080 x 1920 at 9:16, so one file can serve both.
- Keep text and logos out of the top 14 percent, the bottom 35 percent and 6 percent of each side. That is Meta's published guidance for Facebook Reels ads, and the app itself can differ by device and app version.
Frequently asked questions
How long can a Facebook Reel be?
Between 3 and 90 seconds through the Reels publishing API that scheduling tools use. Longer footage has to go out as a regular feed video instead.
What size should a Facebook Reel be?
1080 x 1920 at 9:16, and no smaller than 540 x 960. Facebook accepts anything from 16:9 to 9:16, but only vertical fills the screen.
Is there a file size limit for Facebook Reels?
Facebook does not publish one for Reels, so the 4 GB video limit applies. With a 90 second ceiling, a normal export never gets close to it.
Can one video be both an Instagram Reel and a Facebook Reel?
Yes, as long as it runs 90 seconds or less. Both surfaces want 1080 x 1920 at 9:16, so one export covers both.
